Third person sci fi shooter

Platinum Games, as the developer, and SEGA, as the publisher, have revealed that they are working on a new third person shooter, called Vanquish, set to be delivered for the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft at some point during the winter launch season.

Vanquish should offer a science fiction setting combined with gameplay mechanics, which emphasize speed both in movement and in the combat.

The videogame is set in the near future just as the United States of America and Russia are fighting over the ever dwindling energy resources of the world. Just as the US tries to harness the energy of the sun Russia wipes out San Francisco and the two engage in an inconclusive stalemate over the space station now aimed at New York.

The player will take on the role of a United States government agent named Sam, who is wearing a battle suit that allows him to adapt to all the conditions on the battlefield. He has a wide arsenal of weapons and confronts vast armies of robotic enemies. The initial look of the game seems to mimic that of Gears of War 2 and a cover mechanic might be used in a similar fashion to the Epic Games move best seller.

Shinji Mikami, who is the game director working on Vanquish, said that “VANQUISH™ is a game where we’ve tried to inject the extreme pace of an action game into a shooter. The gameplay and staging are all put together around the keyword ‘intensity’. I think it’s very rare to come across a game where shooting loads of robots is so much fun.” Meanwhile, Mike Hayes, the Chief Executive Officer of SEGA West, stated that Vanquish aimed to deliver “the scope and special effects of a Hollywood movie.”
