It seems that publisher SEGA is working on a mysterious new sports title, with the title not yet disclosed, which could again use the highly rated partnership between popular characters Mario and Sonic.
In an interview with Gamesauce Him Selletin, who is a producer working at the Australian studios of SEGA, has revealed the existence of a new sports title which is developed for a variety of platforms, with the work being done by the Down Under studio.
The game is apparently set to use a lot of motion captured animation, with the photographs that accompanied the interview showing how the capturing is being done at the studio.
SEGA Australia has long enjoyed good ties with Nintendo and that has lead to rumors on message boards that the sports title reference is a way of talking about a new game built around Mario and Sonic, two iconic characters that have smashed sales records when they have appeared together.
In 2007, the two collaborated on Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games which was a success on both the Nintendo Wii home console and on the DS handheld systems.
The Guinness World Record body has certified the game was being the “best selling cross over” which includes two well-known gaming characters, with the combined number of copies moved to consoles reaching more than 11 million.
There's still some time to go under the next Olympic year, which is set to take place in 2012 in Great Britain, but considering that the game needs some time to be created and that the release tends to be about three to six months before the actual start date of the games, it makes sense of
SEGA to be working on another title that will probably create a lot of revenue.
Considering that Kinect and PlayStation Move have delivered motion tracking to Microsoft and Sony Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games 2012 could well be multiplatform.
