Video game publisher SEGA says that the Sonic Team studio is currently working on its own title associated with the hedgehog-powered franchise, which is apparently not connected in any way with the new Sonic Boom universe.

The company is quoted by Polygon as explaining that the Japanese team is currently creating a follow-up of the most recent release in the series, Lost World, which appeared in late 2013.

No details have yet been offered on the project and it might be a while before SEGA is ready to give info, as it is now working full time on Sonic Boom.

The game will probably be launched on the Wii U from Nintendo, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Sonic Boom is designed to create a new storyline inside the franchise, with redesigned characters and a set of new mechanics that will impress long-term fans and newcomers.
