Video game publisher SEGA has released new information about the upcoming London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games, including a slew of new screenshots that detail the kind of events that players will be able to take part in.

The big news is that motion control, meaning both the Kinect for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation Move for the PS3, are used for a number of Olympic disciplines, like beach volleyball, 110 hurdles run, 25 meters rapid fire pistol.

The new events added for the 2012 installment of the SEGA Olympic Games include the keirin in cycling, the 10 meters synchronized platform for diving and the trampoline for the same discipline.

London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games will also use global leaderboards to allow players to compare themselves with other players and see how their performance improves over time.

There’s also a competition between nations, with the medals won by each player added up to see how the various countries perform.

Gary Knight, who is the senior vice president of Marketing at SEGA, stated, “London 2012 sees the successful relationship between SEGA, ISM and the IOC become even more exciting in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games. With all new Olympic events and returning favourite sports brought to life with the very latest video gaming technology, everyone can truly compete in the greatest sporting event on earth.”
