Fans have now the chance to start voting for their favorite sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comic book adaptation films of the year, as Spike TV has announced the nominations for the SCREAM Awards 2010, the 5th edition of the awards ceremony.

It’s not for nothing that pre-release hype was saying “Inception” would turn out to be the biggest movie of the summer, as Chris Nolan’s dreamy pic leads noms with 14 nods in 15 categories.

Not that other blockbusters are giving up without a good fight either. “Iron Man 2,” “Avatar” and HBO’s highly successful series “True Blood” are also coming strong from behind, the press release that went out the other day announces.

The list of nominations was comprised by leading figures in Hollywood, including Tim Burton, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Neil Gaiman, Damon Lindelof, Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino and Joss Whedon, all of them boasting a solid background and reputation in the industry.

The moment the nominations were made official, fans were allowed to start voting for their favorite film, actor, director and even scene at the official Spike TV webpage.

The awards ceremony, the fifth of its kind, will take place on October 16, at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. The red carpet will certainly be filled with stars judging by the nominations alone.

Spike TV will air the awards ceremony a few days later, on October 19 in a two-hour show, the same press release further informs.

Sam Trammell, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor on “True Blood” said he’s “honored” to see his work acknowledge, adding that the mere fact that the series has been nominated for the SCREAM awards is wonderful in itself.

“I am deeeeply honored to be included among such a vile, loathsome and scoundrelly set of blackguards,” Stephen Lang, who got a nod for Best Villain for his role in the best-selling “Avatar” also said.

Below are some of the nominees for the major categories. For the full list of nominations and to cast your vote, see the Spike TV page here.
