Judge finds Samsung guilty of infringing one generic Apple patent

It seems like Samsung will have to halt sales of its rather successful Galaxy Tab 10.1. The tablet is practically an overgrown smartphone that is powered by Google’s Android operating system.

U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh reportedly decided that, "Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products. While Samsung will certainly suffer lost sales from the issuance of an injunction, the hardship to Apple of having to directly compete with Samsung’s infringing products outweighs Samsung’s harm in light of the previous findings by the Court."

Samsung is now free to file an appeal or even release a newer version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, as the current product has been on the market for almost a year now.

Apple will have to post a $2.6 / €2 million bond in case Samsung’s appeal overrules the current decision of the judge, in which case Samsung will receive the money.
