Rashida Jones gets praise for her “exotic tan” on the red carpet at the SAG Awards 2015

The red carpet ceremony at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards 2015 was packed with awkward and cringe-worthy moments, from Jennifer Aniston and Julianne Moore’s refusal to do the E! Mani Cam, to this exchange on Rashida Jones’ exotic tan, shown in the video below.

This was perhaps more embarrassing that Maria Menounous’ inviting Julia Louis-Dreyfous to stand with her over a ventilation hole so she could get some cool air up her skirt. Yes, that happened on the red carpet too, and capped a night of awkwardness and inappropriateness for Menounous and E!.

This time, it was a TNT / People Magazine red carpet team that committed the faux pas. Rashida was coming up in a gorgeous Emanuel Ungaro dress, and Danielle Demski, after asking her the usual “who are you wearing?” question, proceeded to praise her gorgeous tan that made her look like an exotic beauty.

“I mean, you know, I'm ethnic,” Rashida smiled, managing to keep her cool.

Danielle tried to laugh it off by saying something along the lines of “oh, this is no tan!,” while her co-host blurted out, “so am I.” Sometimes, in their bid to make conversation, any kind of conversation at all, these people on red carpets can say the most inane things, in addition to not doing their research ahead of the big night.

Credit goes to Rashida for handling this like a pro. She is, by the way, the daughter of African-American music mogul Quincy Jones and Jewish actress Peggy Lipton. She didn’t get her “tan” on some exotic island.
