The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014 took place over the weekend, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and some of the biggest names in film and television came out to receive awards for their work in the past year or, in the case of most, rejoice with their peers who won.

As far as winners go, there were probably few surprises – definitely fewer than when the nominations for the Oscars 2014 were announced last week.

“American Hustle” was one of the biggest winners of the night, while Cate Blanchett took home the award for Best Actress for her performance in “Blue Jasmine.” As many industry insiders had predicted, Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor for “Dallas Buyers Club.”

Right now, these two, Blanchett and McConaughey, are considered the strongest contenders at the Oscars 2014, which will take place on March 2 and wrap up the current awards season.

Newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, who won over both critics and fans with her gorgeous performance in “12 Years a Slave,” walked home with the award for Best Supporting Actress, while Jared Leto won Best Supporting Actor for “Dallas Buyers Club,” in which he plays a transvestite diagnosed with AIDS.

In television, officially the biggest winner was “Breaking Bad,” which wrapped up last year. “Modern Family” was also a very strong presence, scooping up 2 awards.
