Last night, the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles hosted the 17th Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011, the awards ceremony where winners are voted by 100,000 industry people / actors. “The King’s Speech” was the big winner of the night.

As the awards season is moving on, there are fewer and fewer surprises in terms of who receives accolades, one may as well note.

Just like at the Golden Globes 2011, at the SAG Awards 2011, winners were “King’s Speech,” “Black Swan” and “The Fighter” in film, while “Boardwalk Empire,” “30 Rock” and “You Don’t Know Jack” won in television.

While “King’s Speech” won for Outstanding Cast in Film and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor (Colin Firth), “Black Swan” earned Natalie Portman an accolade for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress.

In the Best Supporting category, both awards went to actors in “The Fighter,” with Christian Bale nabbing Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, and Melissa Leo the award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

These were precisely the same actors who won at the Globes a couple of weeks ago, which means they’re almost certainly poised to win big at the upcoming Academy Awards as well.

In fact, word online has it, it would be a huge surprise if Colin Firth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale don’t win at the Oscars, which will take place in February.

In television, the big winners of the night were Steve Buscemi for “Boardwalk Empire” and Julianna Margulies for “The Good Wife” (Drama), and Alec Baldwin for “30 Rock” and Betty White for “Hot in Cleveland” (Comedy series).
