SAG Awards 2011: The Bad, the Good and the Unexpected

Last night, at the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011, there were few surprises in terms of winners, but that doesn’t mean that this took anything from the glamorous ceremony.

E! Online chose to analyze the awards gala in terms of Best and Worst moments, with the former fortunately surpassing the latter.

Still, there were some surprising moments as well, like how genuinely surprised actress Betty White showed herself to be when her name was announced as winner for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedic Series.

Also surprising / unexpected was the way Hugh Laurie of “House M.D.” kept making all sorts of bored faces throughout the night, thus clearly sending the message that he’d have rather he’d been at home than there, E! notes.

Another rather shocking thing was having actors up on stage promoting their own movies, something that has rarely been done before at these things.

“Stars like Mark Ruffalo and Annette Bening and Colin Firth and his Kings Speech costars were trotted out to celebrate some very special films... starring them. That's weird even for actors, right?” E! asks.

In the best category, the same e-zine includes Julianna Margulies’ acceptance speech, in which she thanked her in-laws for giving birth to her husband – while the camera cut to Oscar-winner Hillary Swank, who infamously forgot to thank her partner once.

The best looking presenters were, hands down, Taye Diggs and Sofia Vergara, who took to the stage to present the award for Outstanding Ensemble Drama, the e-zine notes.

Most self-effacing speech goes to Colin Firth, who won for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role for the critically acclaimed “The King’s Speech,” who played it cool by saying, “Looking out at who’s here, I’d like to thank security for letting me into the building.”

Donald Sutherland gets E!’s Best Beard award, while Mark Wahlberg was the man of the hour (in the shade) because, as producer, he helped co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo win for “The Fighter” (in which he plays lead).

He also produced “Boardwalk Empire” so he was double the winner.

Worst moment goes to the “In Memoriam” segment, E! believes. “While the ‘In Memoriam’ segment was actually pretty good, we wondered about some of the dialogue chosen for the segment. Some of the choices seemed a little random and out of character for the moment,” writes the e-zine.

I think the writers today forget the "who, what, where, why and when" as they write their stories. Now I have to go and research more about some of the article........ example- The "worst moment" paragraph tells us only "when"?????????????
