SAG Awards 2011: Natalie Portman Wears $2 Million in Diamonds

At last night’s SAG Awards 2011, the 17th annual edition, all eyes were on Natalie Portman. The pregnant star, SAG winner and favorite at the Oscars, did not disappoint: she was literally dripping in diamonds.

The petite actress, who is now pregnant with her first child, walked the red carpet in a white column dress by Azzaro that beautifully showed off her baby bump and $2 million worth of diamonds.

It’s only understandable to have this awards season’s favorite wearing the best of the best, from couture to accessories and, as is the case here, diamonds.

The jewelry was a loan from Tiffany’s and implied Natalie walking around on the red carpet escorted by her own personal bodyguard, just in case something happened to it, The Hollywood Reporter writes.

“Natalie Portman needed security when she walked the red carpet at the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday in LA,” says the movie-oriented e-zine.

“The reason: The Azzaro-clad star was wearing $2 million in Tiffany jewels,” the publication further reports.

While speaking with E! reporters for the red carpet special, Natalie herself admitted to not feeling quite at ease with so much bling on herself.

“I don’t want to advertise that. I feel like someone might come chop my ears off or something. I need my ears,” she joked.

Luckily, after she posed for pictures on the red carpet, she didn’t have to worry about her gems anymore because she was in the venue. Moreover, she got to show them off to the entire audience as she picked up the award for best actress.

Another actress to have recently had some diamond trouble is “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks, who, at the 2011 Golden Globes, lost one of her diamond bracelets believed to be worth a whopping $850,000.

Eventually, one of the staffers found it on the red carpet and had it returned to the redheaded actress, who, by this time, was desperate because she couldn’t find it, as we also informed you at the time.
