Despite not being the biggest name in the industry, VIA's graphics subsidiary, S3 Graphics, is still a noteworthy graphics card maker, which has just introduced the new Chrome 540GTX video card. The Chrome 540GTX, which the company claims to be the world's most connected high-definition capable card ever, has been designed to combine 256MB of GDDR3 memory with a fast clock speed for improved performance and providing the latest in connectivity technology.
“S3 Graphics has continued to introduce new visualization technologies to the market by adding another feature-rich product to our growing portfolio of key graphics and display processors,” said Dr. Ken Weng, GM for S3 Graphics. “Our new Chrome 540 GTX card brings features usually found only in enthusiast grade products to mainstream users, making the latest innovative technologies available to all.”
According to the company, the new Chrome graphics card has been specifically designed to provide users with support for the latest in entertainment technology. The card is equipped with a DisplayPort, HDMI, dual-link DVI-I and an optional CRT interface, using a DVI-to-CRT connector. All that makes up for the card's impressive connectivity options, to which VIA has added an integrated 8-channel high-fidelity audio solution, for a Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound experience.
In addition, as with most graphics cards currently available on the market, the new Chrome 540GTX has been designed to support Microsoft's DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0 applications.
The S3 Graphics Chrome 540 GTX graphics card is built using a PCI-Express 2.0 interface offering support for the latest platforms. Also, due to the card's overall design, users can easily use it in small form factor PCs. According to VIA, the new card is available for customers in the U.S. for just $69.95 and can be purchased directly from the company's retail affiliate, Gstore.
