S3 Graphics announced the launch of a new processor at ESC 2008 (April 15-18th). The S3 Graphics 4300E will bring 30% better
power-efficiency and the high level performance HD video and DX10.1 / OpenGL 2.1 graphics. The new processor is designed for embedded markets and will provide the latest technology in graphics rendering, display connectivity, HD video playback, and power management for developers of gaming, digital signage and other multimedia applications.

The new leading performance-per-watt ratio brought by S3 Graphics 4300E is 30% boosted comparing to competitors products. At the moment, this product seems to be the only discrete high-performance HD video and graphics processor designed especially to comply with all the requirements of the embedded industry. Based on end-product requirements, developers may choose to use the maximum power-efficiency or extreme multimedia performance.

A programmable graphics engine with media acceleration for H.264, VC-1, AVS, DivX, and MPEG-2 HD are incorporated in the S3 Graphics 4300E along with ultimate display connectivity including HDMI with HDCP, dual channel LVDS, and dual-link DVI. The graphics processor has been designed using top-of-the-line programmable unified shader architecture to be compliant with DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 2.1.It enables system developers to bring unique 3D experience to feature-rich product introductions.

The S3 Graphics 4300E processor uses low leakage 65nm manufacturing technology. Its energy efficient multimedia architecture scales from 300MHz to 600MHz. The latest DDR2 and DDR3 memories can be coupled both with the HD video and graphics core, supporting up to 256MB of local graphics memory. A PCI Express 2.0 compliant bus supporting x1, x4, x8, and x16 lane widths is also incorporated in the multimedia processor, along with the PCI Express ASPM that enables more power reduction and allows impressive low heat, fan-less configurations.

The built-in dual-link DVI/HDMI transmitters with HDCP and dual channel LVDS featured by 4300E enable the latest high resolution standard and wide screen flat panels. The graphics processor also features two analog RAMDACS for CRT connectivity.

With the new 4300E multimedia processor, S3 Graphics expands its portfolio of embedded graphics, covering the entire area of top-to-bottom solutions for multimedia intensive embedded applications. S3 Graphics 4300E comes along with the already-shipping 2300E family. For the 2300E an SDK and hardware development kit is available to developers now, while the 4300E development kit will be available in June 2008.

"With the fast evolving need for increasingly advanced digital multimedia technology in the embedded industry, we are extremely proud to offer a highly competitive product with the 4300E," said Dr. Ken Weng, GM for S3 Graphics. "S3 Graphics now offers a full range of products that can inspire embedded system developers to greater and greater heights."

The Embedded Systems Conference (ESC), will take place at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California on April 15-18th. The S3 Graphics 4300E will be launched at the VIA booth (2110).
