GSC Game World is sending word that it is working on a new project in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, which is set to be launched on the PC during the autumn of 2009. At the moment, the name of the game is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat but that could change as the release date draws near.

The third game in the series that was very well received by gamers is said to take place shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

The plot is centered on an attempt from the Ukrainian government to take control of the whole Zone, after the discovery of the patch that leads to its center. The operation should involve only military personnel and the first component is a detailed scouting mission set to map the area and make sure that there are no surprises when the main force moves in.

Of course, nothing goes according to plan. The helicopters that carry the scouts crash and the information needed is not collected. So, the Ukrainian Security Services decide to send one agent into the zone to do all the dirty work. The actions of that agent are controlled by the player.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is said to feature the main areas of the exclusion zone, like Pripyat town, Yanov railway station, Jupiter factory and Kopachi village, recreated as close to reality as possible. The new story is set to include a few new characters, but also some returning from the previous two games.

There are new monsters, called Chimera and Burer, with some tweaks to the abilities of other creatures. Players can now sleep in the game, there are fresh weapons and a whole new way for emissions to work. GSC is promising that the interface will also be redesigned in order to make the game easier to control.
