P.J. Estevez, the design director working on Ryse: Son of Rome, says that the game has a combat system that rewards those who are ready to spend the time required to learn the Quick Time Event based system.

He tells GameReactor that his team’s philosophy is “let's make it open up a window and let's give guys who want to spend time learning it more of a reward bonus.”

Other action titles use QTEs to mark significant moments in the game or the defeat of powerful enemies, but in Ryse the mechanic is integrated into the core gameplay.

Esteves also says that his team will continue to push the graphics capabilities of the Xbox One with its new titles, aiming for full photo-realism during battles.

Ryse is one of the launch titles for the new Microsoft home console.
