Rygel, an open source and free media server solution distributed as part of the GNOME desktop environment, has reached version 0.27.1 on May 25, an unstable version that will be part of the GNOME 3.17.2 development release.

Rygel 0.27.1 is the first milestone towards the next stable release of the project, Rygel 0.28, which will be distributed along with the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment this fall, on September 23, 2015.

According to the attached changelog, Rygel 0.27.1 brings code style fixes, string updates, support for exporting only the necessary symbols by linking plugins, as well as some code changes that enable direct use of the gupnp_get_uuid () function instead of the libuuid library.

It is now possible to change the serial number of a device, required arguments are now checked automatically on the RUIH component, a thread pool is now used on the simple media engine, and non-file URIs are now handled in the GStreamer media engine.

Furthermore, transcoder is no longer added to the GStreamer media engine if the primary resource has an identical profile, HTTP-ready URIs are now moved to the top of the list on the GStreamer media engine, TransportActions issues for images and proper handling of the slideshow feature in the Renderer were also fixed.

The Server component of Rygel received various improvements as well, such as a fix for the output of the to_string() method for HTTPByteSeekResponse, fixes for mime-type rewriting, support for enabling the MP3 file format by default for LG devices, and various other small fixes.

Many other components were improved, and translations updated

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Rygel 0.27.1 stops a critical message and removes deprecated APIs from the GStreamer renderer component, supports overriding of the User-Agent header, no longer requires the e2fs UUID library as a dependency, and it now needs GUPnP 0.20.14.

Last but not least, the Czech, Catalan, Greek, French, Korean, Polish, Slovak, Slovenian, and Basque language translations were updated. Download Rygel 0.27.1 right now from Softpedia, but keep in mind that this is a pre-release version that contains unresolved issues.
