As the editorial in the latest issue of GQ magazine puts it, Ryan Reynolds is so ripped “even his abs have abs,” a joke that probably doesn’t surprise most of his fans. The magazine also sheds light on his “superhero” diet while shooting for “Green Lantern.”The actor, who has worked hard to build a career in the movie industry, has always been known for his incredibly toned physique, something that would often work against his endeavors of being more than just a pretty face.
One thing that’s notable about the Canadian star is that he’s very determined – and that includes getting in top shape to play a superhero. Which is precisely what he’s doing.
“On the Green Lantern set, I watch him eat his usual plate of steamed chicken, salmon, broccoli, carrots, and rice,” GQ correspondent Chris Heath writes in the piece.
“On the kitchen counter of the house he rents in New Orleans is a huge jar of a white powder called Isolyze, primarily whey protein,” Heath adds of Ryan’s secret for the excellent shape he’s in.
“Wherever he is, he snacks on these orange bars called Zero Impact Pumpkin Supremes – ‘sort of like a pumpkin made out of cinder block,’ he quips,” Heath further says.
Of course, eating healthy is not all Ryan does to keep the abs (on his abs) in top condition because, understandably, he also puts in a lot of effort in gym workouts.
“I have a discipline that has served me very well in my career and in my personal life, and that’s gotten stronger as I’ve gotten older,” Ryan says.
“I’ve always felt if I don’t just have a natural knack for it, I will just outdiscipline the competition if I have to – work harder than anybody else,” the star adds.
And it clearly shows – even though not in the latest GQ spread, which has the handsome actor in classic cut suits that he pulls off so well, and not even in one single shot sans shirt.
In the same
interview, Reynolds also talks a bit about his personal life and what it’s like to be married to Scarlett Johansson, how he decided he wanted an acting career and how his parents handled the news and, most importantly, his latest film, “Buried.”
