The “Deadpool” spinoff fans had been promised with “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in 2009 took what felt like for ever to happen, but when it will finally open in theaters on February 12, 2016, it will have been worth the wait.

You can take Ryan Reynolds’ word on it.

Speaking with The Short List about the spinoff, which will be coming under the direction of Tim Miller of Blur Studio, the actor says that he’s thrilled with how things are going so far. Shooting only starts in a very short while, but for the time being, Reynolds is positive everything will come out just perfect.

“I’m incredibly happy about it - we’ve got a director that understands that world and writers with a slavish devotion to the canon of that character. That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace. Well, that’s the hope,” he says.

Reynolds knows a lot about how important fans’ support is with these projects, having experienced harsh criticism twice with separate outings: once with Deadpool and once with Green Lantern, which is his biggest commercial and critical flop to date.

“Deadpool” also stars T.J. Miller, Gina Carano and Morena Baccarin, and is based off a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wenick. Miller, who will direct it, is from the studio that created the short animated Deadpool film that actually got the feature film greenlit, when it leaked in July 2014.
