As speculation over the cause of the separation continues to make the rounds, Ryan Reynolds has made the first step towards having his marriage to Scarlett Johnasson dissolved by filing divorce papers over the Christmas holiday.

Proving that the split is indeed an amicable one and that the two are determined to get through divorce without attracting too much media attention, Scarlett filed her own petition only minutes after Ryan.

TMZ has gotten a hold of divorce papers and, while they say the two had signed no prenup, they also state they are determined to make the split as quick and painless as possible.

“Ryan Reynolds just officially filed for divorce from Scarlett Johansson, but all signs point to a more-than-amicable parting of ways and TMZ has Ryan’s petition and Scarlett’s reply,” the e-zine writes.

“Scarlett’s response to Ryan’s petition was filed at the same time – a strong indication the two of them coordinated the court filings,” TMZ says.

According to the documents, neither Ryan nor Scarlett is asking for spousal support, while the issue of the division property will be settled at a later date.

There was no prenup and the papers state Ryan made more money than Scarlett while they were married.

“Ryan lists the date of separation as December 14, 2010. Scarlett agrees on the date. Since everything they earned is community property, presumably it will be divided 50/50, though the petitions say property rights are yet to be determined,” TMZ says.

The two seem determined to part ways in a very amicable ways – with lots of help from high-powered attorneys –, which also means no statement about what went wrong in their marriage.

This also means the tabs are having a field day speculating on why they broke up. As of now, two theories are making the rounds: either Scarlett put Ryan on second place and her career first, or they simply drifted apart because of their work.
