Talk of a Deadpool spinoff first emerged even before “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was completed. Since this is one character that is highly favored by fans and given that Ryan Reynolds did his part brilliantly as the highly annoying Wade Wilson (Deadpool), talks between the star and the movie studio for a spinoff began a while back. And they’re still going strong, with the project coming along just nicely, Empire Online informs.

Reynolds himself is a big fan of both the comics and the Deadpool character. Moreover, considering the kind of exposure playing it as a lead character can bring, one might easily conclude that the star is more than motivated to see this project getting the go. So far though, he reveals in a recent interview, Fox is still working on the script and trying to find a director, which is exactly the same stage where things were many months ago. The good news is that the project has not been discarded, as many speculated.

“Break the fourth wall?” Reynolds tells Empire of Deadpool and his expectations for it. “Oh yeah, he’s got to. I want to see him break the Great Wall. The studio’s working on a script and trying to find a director. The main goal is to make sure it stays close to the source material.” the actor explains. As for feeling pressure from the impressive fanbase, Ryan is not immune to it, especially since he’s a diehard fan as well and does not want this project to fail or, worse, be criticized.

“I’m one of them. I’ve always been a fan, at least for the last eight or nine years. I feel a bit of validation because I knew going into Wolverine that there’s a huge fanbase for this and I don’t think anyone else did.” Reynolds explains. However, while the actor is extremely happy to talk about the Deadpool spinoff, there is one thing that he’ll not talk about no matter what and that’s the decapitation scene at the end of “Wolverine,” which basically ruins the chances of placing the spinoff after it, as Empire underlines.

As other movie-oriented publications point out, there is also the possibility of doing the Deadpool film after Wolverine, but that involves Fox coming up with an idea to reattach the villain’s body and unstitch his mouth in a way that will not offend fans. Until some clarification is brought onto this, the general consensus is that the Deadpool spinoff will most likely precede the events in “Wolverine.”
