Ryan Gosling is known for his reticence to get involved in big Hollywood franchises, preferring to get involved in more “artsy” projects, often independent ones. But there is no denying that he also has the power to bring in people in cinemas for any movie that he's involved in, which is why, at the moment, he's become the apple of discord between Marvel and DC Comics.

Several news outlets are claiming that Gosling has received offers from both Marvel and DC Comics to star in comic book-inspired movies, and the fight could get ugly. Earlier this week, it was reported that Marvel added Gosling on the ever expanding list of actors that could play the role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming movie adaptation.

Ryan Gosling has to choose between “Doctor Strange” and “Suicide Squad”

Today, it is confirmed by CheatSheet that he's also being courted by DC Comics for the upcoming project “Suicide Squad,” which was just confirmed earlier this week. Most actors would kill to be in Ryan's shoes at the moment, because when two big studio battle it out for an actor, that actor is going to get a very big pay day in the end, since a bigger contract is the only weapon the studios have to beat the competition.

If Ryan waits too long, he could lose both roles

But Gosling shouldn't count his chickens just yet. The brand new father hasn't been confirmed for either role, and tough negotiating could mean that he is cut from both parts. After all, the Doctor Strange cast list includes some pretty big names, such as Jared Leto, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ethan Hakwe, Ewan McGregor and, recently, Keanu Reeves and Matthew McConaughey. Some sources are now saying that Justin Theroux is now also interested in the part.

The reason for this fierce fight for the role is that many think that this is going to be Marvel's next big honey pot, its next Iron Man, because it is billed as the movie that will open the gate to Marvel's mystic side of the universe, which is expected to be continued in many films.

But DC Comics' project isn't that shabby either. Since it was confirmed, it managed to attract serious star power. The movie is going to be about a group of super villains that take on high risk black ops for the American government. Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie have all been attached to a certain role in the David Ayer-directed film.

The consensus is that Ryan is going to choose Marvel because he has already refused DC Comics once. He was initially offered the role of Green Lantern in the movie adaptation, but he pulled out of the project when the studio insisted on doing many sequels.
