Despite moving to Real Madrid this summer, Ruud Van Nistelrooy's professional life didn't take the expected boost. Of course, he managed to score for his new club and gained a starting position within Capello's squad, but his international career received a big blow after the World Cup.

Following Marco Van Basten's decision to drop Ruud for the European qualifiers, the Real Madrid striker wanted to explain the Dutch supporters how thing are going inside the national squad. So, after keeping silence
for a few weeks, Ruud finally burst into critics a few days ago.

"Van Basten does not take football under consideration when picking the squad. And it's a shame that our national coach doesn't take an interest in players' value when it comes to picking the squad. He thinks other things are more important. If you don't satisfy Van Basten as a man, you're out", admitted Van Nistelrooy for "Sportweek" magazine.

He added: "I have to say these things to all Dutch supporters, so that they don't get the wrong impression of me or any other player. There are plenty of "stars" that he dropped from the squad - Van Bommel, Seedorf, Makaay or Davids - just because he didn't like how they acted off the pitch".

As for leaving the national squad for good, Ruud was very clear on that: "After the World Cup, I had the feeling that I won't be playing for my national team any more. That feeling was confirmed to me later on. Still, I'll never give up Netherlands. I believe the fans deserve to see the best players of Netherlands playing side by side, and I think I have a place booked among them".

Ruud's first conflict with Van Basten happened before Netherlands' clash against Portugal in World Cup's Last 16 round. Van Basten left Ruud off the pitch all match and the team lost 1-0. This came only one month after Ruud previously got into a rough argument with Man U manager, Alex Ferguson.
