New Mac cloner emerges from Russia

Treading in the footsteps of Psystar in Miami, PearC in Germany, and OpeniMac in Argentina, RussianMac is just one of the many Mac cloners offering the cheapest way to use Mac OS X at home, or at work. However, unlike other companies that make profits off Apple's operating system, RussianMac even posts its method of creating a PC that is able to run OS X. Needles to point out, Apple is against vendors that reverse-engineer its software to make it compatible with regular PC hardware.

RussianMac's equivalent of the Mac Pro boasts an Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.8 Ghz processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 512Mb graphics, 8 x USB ports, one FireWire port and a 20-x DVD ± RW drive. The company doesn't avoid saying it is offering customers the real Mac OS X experience without being charged for the Apple brand.

“Powerful and reliable work station at a great price for the professional tasks: processing of video, music or work with graphics,” a rough translation of the PRO computer description goes. “Ample opportunities to upgrade – you can set the 5 hard drives and 16Gb of RAM. Software FinalCut, Photoshop, Logic, Aperture, and others – are fully functional.”

“Computers are adapted to work with Mac OS X. All the software works flawlessly, including the built-in update utility,” RussianMac states on its website. The vendor also chooses to disclose its methods (if vague) of rendering its hardware compatible with OS X.

“We have designed and implemented a special method to collect the computers fully compatible with Mac OS X, which is checked and we guarantee it,” RussianMac pinpoints. The essence of the method: “We select only certain components and carry out adaptation of the entire system to work stable Mac OS X. Guaranteed to work the entire periphery (video, network, sound, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, FireWare) and software. Other details are not disclosed,” RussianMac adds.
