Skype has just announced that, starting today, Russian users can purchase credit from their mobile phones and pay either as part of the monthly bill or using the pre-paid account balance.

A similar service will be soon launched in the United States and Canada too, the company said in a press release, so Russian users can consider themselves lucky.

The direct operator billing service is provided by Mach and is based on a browser transaction that is “secure, seamless and convenient,” as the two companies said.

“Since the announcement of our partnership with MACH in September last year, we have seen direct operator billing gather momentum in North America and Russia, and we are looking forward to rolling the solution out in additional markets in the near future,” Jason Macklin, director Billing and Payments, Skype Division – Microsoft, said in a statement.
