Two track gold medalists from Russia have staged a protest against Russia's anti-gay legislation. The pair of female athletes kissed as they received their gold medals.

Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firov are protesting against a piece of legislation that bans PDAs for LGBT couples in public and particularly in front of children.

Breaking said law brings about fines and even incarceration. The country is treating said displays of affection as gay propaganda.

The pair's kiss took the world by storm at the World Athletic Championships in Moscow, where they won 4x400m (4x0.25 miles) races.

According to Empower Network, other athletes have protested LGBT discrimination before. U.S. runner Nick Symmonds won the silver in the 800m (0.5 miles) event and used the occasion to remind everyone of his gay friends in his home country.
