Back in March we learned that a number of 8 individuals, suspected of being connected to the cybercriminal ring that relied on the Carberp Trojan to commit crimes, have been arrested in Russia. According to reports from Group-IB, Russian authorities have detained another 6 alleged members of the group.

The gang, called Hodprot - the name of the malware they had used before they turned to Carberp -, is wanted by law enforcement after having utilized malicious software to commit online banking fraud.

It’s believed that the fraudsters have managed to illegally earn more than 110 million rubles (2.5 million EUR or $3.2 million), part of which from the customers of Sberbank.

Authorities have detained the cybercriminals with the aid of Group-IB, a Russian security firm that specializes in computer crime investigations and computer forensics.
