The comedian and television host Russell Brand denied all implication or knowledge of an alleged rape that took place after a party in his Edinburgh flat. The funnyman was throwing the party to celebrate his participation at the Edinburgh Film Festival and the 20-year-old student was just one of the many who got an invitation.
The police say that the girl who claims to have been drugged and raped at Brand's place of residence remembers nothing of the incident, save that she was offered a drink. She also stated that, in the morning, she was not feeling well and she decided to see a doctor, who told her that she had been sexually abused.
'She says she remembers having a drink but nothing after that. She woke next morning and felt very uncomfortable, as if she had sex. A friend persuaded her to go to a hospital. After she was examined, the staff advised her to contact the police. We are waiting DNA test results', a police officer told the press.
But the investigation reached a dead end, as Russell left for Morocco on holiday and it is all pending on his testimony. His spokesperson gave an official statement - in the comedian's absence - that denies all implication in the alleged rape or any knowledge about such a thing taking place in his home.
'As it was Mr. Brand's flat, the police have asked to speak with him on his return from holiday and Mr. Brand is happy to assist the police with their inquiries', the spokesperson told the press.
