Russell Crowe has often been ridiculed by the tabloids for his yo-yo-ing weight, but he’s determined to leave them without a good story pretty soon. He’s kicked off the summer of fitness, which is documented on Twitter no less.

As People magazine reports, it all started on June 18, when Crowe announced that he’d been on his first bike ride in a very long time and that he was already feeling sore because of it.

“First ride in quite some time. Sore legs, sore [backside], be worse tomorrow and the next day,” he wrote on his official Twitter.

He also tried to explain why his weight had ballooned again: apparently, it’s not so much that he’s eating more when he puts on weight, but rather that he’s not getting enough exercise.

“If i stop exercising my body tries 2 return 2 its heaviest weight,” he told one of his followers.

To make sure he gets back to his ideal weight, Crowe has gone on a diet and is putting a lot of effort and time in burning the extra calories.

Though he doesn’t usually do media, he’s very open with his Twitter followers, so he’s keeping them up to speed with his progress in terms of losing weight.

“During his 105-day training period, Crowe’s diet plan includes ‘taking in roughly 2400 cal/ 2600 cal incl all beverages,’ and increasingly grueling workouts, one of which had the actor declaring, ‘i’m toast’,” People writes, citing Crowe himself.

Even though the first days are excruciating and the Oscar-winning actor seems to be having a very hard time, he’s keeping optimistic about it, telling his fans that he knows he’s just at the beginning of the journey.

“There is a long way to go, one layer of tissue paper per day of effort and diet,” he wrote, saying his days had come to mean “body movement with weighted objects” and “sweaty 4-shirt mornings.”
