14 DAY TRIAL // Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe is, according to the latest reports, a single man. He and his wife of 9 years, Danielle Spencer, have separated but are yet to initiate divorce proceedings, various media outlets inform.
The report originates from The Sydney Morning Herald (via the Daily Mail), which cites sources close to the former golden couple.
Admittedly, the split was amicable and the two have every intention to keep the divorce the same way, thus making the transition all the easier for their two children, Charles and Tennyson (8 and 6 years old, respectively).
However, there is some speculation that, even though the two may be trying to play it cool for the media, a third party might have been involved.
More to the point, Danielle is believed to have cheated on Russell, after they’d grown apart because of his hectic and incredibly busy schedule.
“Despite the general belief that they were a strongly-bonded couple, some critics were surprised to note that Miss Spencer had been photographed on a night out with Damian Whitewood, her dance partner in a TV show, Dancing With the Stars, a few months ago,” the Mail writes.
“Crowe made a big point of dismissing rumors about their relationship later when he gave his wife a lingering kiss in front of the cameras at Sydney airport. But the demands of his acting career have kept him away from Miss Spencer for much of this year,” adds the same media outlet.
Russell and Danielle met 22 years ago but did not become romantically involved on the spot.
They started dating after he broke up with Meg Ryan, with voices describing Danielle as “the quiet, unassuming woman who tamed the Gladiator with her calm and steady nature.”
Russell, for those who don’t know, has quite a nasty reputation because of his temper, which includes a certain incident in which he threw a telephone at a reporter in a fit of rage.
