They’ve only been dating for a little over five months, but Katy Perry and Russell Brand are already engaged to be married though many considered it the oddest couple in showbiz back when they first started dating. Speaking with the latest issue of Nylon magazine, the singer says she thinks her fiancé looks very much like a combination of Charles Manson, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley and Jesus.

Brand is very strong-willed and extremely intelligent, which is why Perry believes their relationship will last. As fans would know, the singer is also very strong-willed herself and quite outspoken, which is why she needs a man to be able to tell her off when it’s necessary, as she also said in an older interview. Moreover, when she looks at Russell, Katy sees a rather unique combination of features and character traits.

Russell is the “boss” in the relationship, Katy goes on to say. “I like that. I’ve been waiting for someone I couldn’t steamroll,” she explains. The wedding ring, which the star proudly showed off shortly after the proposal, came engraved with “the one I’ve been waiting for.” The proposal itself “involved fireworks, elephants, Indian dancers, horse-drawn carriages, and tens of thousands of flower petals,” she adds.

Asked whether marriage will change her in any way, Perry is positive chances of that are actually very slim, at least on a personal level. “I’m marrying one of the world’s most scandalous men. How is that toning down?” she asks. Musically, though, things stand differently as she’s already feeling Brand’s influence in her music, and has been doing so ever since they first met and started going out.

“Sometimes I really feel like I’m more of a Taylor Swift... Love has really affected my songwriting. I know how to handle a man now. [‘I Kissed a Girl’] was meant to be fun, sweet, cute, kind of tongue in cheek... but now I’m comfortable with saying, ‘Actually, I’ve been with a woman’,” Perry further explains.
