Fox News stars have already said that no amount of gun control could have prevented the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, but the owner of the network disagrees.

The controversial Rupert Murdoch is now making headlines for going on the record on Twitter with his stance on the much debated topic of gun control.

After one man gunned down and killed 20 children and 6 adults before taking his own life, Mr. Murdoch tweeted about what he perceived as a desperate need for gun control.

“Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons? As in Oz after similar tragedy,” the media mogul tweeted.

As we also reported the other day, the terrible tragedy has once more reignited the debate on gun control.

Former governor Mike Huckabee, though, believes that something as horrendous as this wouldn’t have happened had we not “systematically removed God from our schools.”

gun control wont work when someone has motive to kill in excess what ever they come up with could be worse r we going to ban gasoline,or any and all explosive devices 1 cup gas equal to about 1 stick dynamite so 1 gallon could do how much damage ie alot worse might have taken out more

I support banning Rupert Murdoch. His only interest is money and spying on people as he did in the UK.

If we think that gun control alone is the solution we again have blinders on and don't won't to look at the real problems in our country today

huckabee represents the kind of attitude we are all working hard to change.

You can not stop something like this. If you outlaw guns it won't
matter because someone who wants to do this same thing will get
a gun. The only way to keep guns out of everyones hands is to
have a totalitarian government like Communist China, Cuba
or Venezuela. Norway has strict gun control yet someone got
a hold of some guns a killed 70+ people. Maybe there is a
majority of people who WANT that kind of government so
they will feel safe.

Has Huckabee been keeping score for the past few milleniums to see who is ahead? Is he keeping score to see if God or gun advocates are winning? How about religions not stiring the pot on abortion, birth-control, or any other political issues and stick to preaching and teaching. We need more education and less indoctrination. Why is it the workers (nuns) on a bus are doing their jobs, but the bishops, priests, and Pope feel it necessary to play politics? Not to pick on the Catholic religion, but they seem to be the major abusers of their obligations and responsibilities.

After reading so many uniformed openions on gun controll I would like to shed a little lite on the thuth of the situation.
1. The Bill of rights was added to protect personal freedoms from an oppresive totallerant government such as the one they had just won their freedom from.
2. This same document also garentees a free press and freedom of speach.
3. If you study the history of the framing of our constatution, bill of rights and writings of the founding fathers of our country you will find that military weapons are the subject not sporting or hunting firearms.
4. In theese papers you will find a very revealing statement of the mindset of theese men which states that this new nation (republic not democrecy ) will only work in a God fearing sociaty.
Seeing as Gode has been rejected by our government and edducation system as well as the general public we now are reaping the results of our rebellion against a loving and wise God who gave us his laws and commandments for our good.
Look around you and see the violence, perversion, greed, selfishness, hatred and every form of wickedness mankind can invent. I am 58 years old and seen this terrible condition develope and know the writing is on the wall for our once great country. Do you think our sociaty will repent and turn back to obaying God? I don't. We have brought calamity upon ourselves and will be conquared and inslaved as we who obey our creator understand from Gods Word ( The Bible ). Scoff and ridacule all you like but you will soon enough find that " the fool has said in his heart THERE IS NO GOD and GOD IS NOT MOCKED, WHAT YOU SOW YOU SHALL REAP, IF YOU SOW TO THE WIND YOU WILL REAP THE WIRLWIND."
You have been warned. You decide your future.

We don't ban cars although people kill people with cars everyday. The same goes for bats and tire irons. people * others up but we don't ban fertilizer.
We don't ban glass and gasoline used in Molotov cocktails. A gun is the instrument of death but it's the person that kills. Murder is a social ill that won't be cured by banning guns

GUN control , if this disturbed individual was set in his mind that he was going to kill , then no matter what he would have found a way to carry out his deed ! The guns were his choice , if he had no guns , then a car type bomb , or driving at high speed into the school ! Maybe even worse , holding a classroom of kids hostage while he killed one at a time in front of all the others !! If a twisted or tortured mind decides its going to do something , it will be done ! Guns , knifes , baseball bat , wooden stick , chain saw or maybe a brick . Are we going to make people register & take a class to own a chain saw ? How about plane crashes , they kill more than 26 at a time , maybe we should ban air travel ? Cigerettes kill thousands every year , why have we not made it illegal to buy cigerettes yet ? OH , thats right TAX's !! Where is it that it will end , when people that have kids take responsability for raising thier kids !
If we want to get it started back in the right direction , make the parents take blame for what thier kid does . If parents were watching what thier kid is doing online & stops buying these "violent video games" & remove TV shows like "South Park" from the TV. Maybe explaining what happens when you shoot someone , unlike video games , when we turn the game back on that person is back & ready to play again ! Or like "South Park" where the one kid gets killed in every episode - yet is back on the next show !! They have banned or removed "Bugs Bunny" & "Road-Runner" because they said those cartoons were to violent . Funny because I watched them for alot of years & I have NOT killed anyone !! Our society is what has failed , we removed "Respect" from our lives , we removed things like the "Pledge of Allegiance" the word "GOD" from almost everything . Why , because we do NOT want to "Offend" anyone ! This was "OUR" country , if you wanted to live here then you should take an "Oath" to do so ! And as everyone that came here before you , you should have to "denounce" the country for which you came from & "Swear Allegiance" to America !! And only the American Flag should be flown in our country , if you are only here to work & take our money , then pay our tax as well ! Thank you for taking the time to read my rant !!

Gun control laws are in place now, against fully automatic assault weapons.
Also multiple round mags holding over 10 rounds. The pistols used were semi-automatic, and legal to purchase. Background checks in place. Focus should be on people control, and identifying those with mental disorders.

If we value the children and teachers then there must be an airport type security scan fore all coming into the school building. Maybe even includng a scan to get on the school property.
If the children and teachers of highest value then there must be armed guards just like the armed guards on a Brinks Armored Truck transporting money.

Well considering they were semi-automatic weapons i think Rupert needs to pay attention to the news a little better

All New World Order advocates wish to disarm the law abiding citizens. That way,we have no way to protect ourselves from Tryanny and Thugs.
This was a great tradegy, yet we still abort and murder over 300 innocent babys today. Murdoch and his types have well armed personel around them. They live in fortress type homes. Seldom rub elbows with the everyday public. These type people think they should control our elected officals with their money.
Proving that the Love of Money is the Root of all Evil.

Comment #19 by: anntt04 on 16 Dec 2012, 17:24 UTC reply to this comment

We live in a culture where you put yourself first before others and it is always justified. The word tolerant means only if you agree with my view. When you don't agree...you are personally attacked rather than having substantive dialogue.

What no one is addressing here is the disgraceful mental health care in this country, and the laws the ACLU changed to protect them which puts us all in danger. Gun laws in the NE are very restrictive, yet it didn't stop this angry young man. It didn't stop the 2011 Norway shootings in a country that has some of the toughest gun restrictive laws in the world. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jul/24/norway-strict-gun-laws-circumvented

As I mentioned, the ACLU changed the laws for forced care of mentally ill patients. I personally have dealt with this hell through my best friend and my own family situation. In both cases, the mentally ill people in our lives were throwing up red flags, which I highly suspect was the issue in CT. The people's language and temperament changes and they become a danger to themselves or others by their threats to do harm. If the family members can even get law enforcement to get them to a mental health facility, they are released before they can be stabilized and have proper care which takes time.

Each time there was a threat the police could do nothing. Then the day came when my best friend's sister chased her and her newborn down the street with a knife. Thank you ACLU!

I have lived in 6 states, some with restrictive gun laws and others that didn't. The states that were more restrictive hands down had more violent crime. It is time we address the laws and care of the mentally ill and allow families the ability to protect themselves and other innocent lives. If we could change the laws dealing with the mentally ill, we would have a much better chance to stop these devastating acts before they happen.

Bottom line, when someone wants to do harm they will find a way. Taking my right to defend myself and my family will only leave me more vulnerable. Bad guys who want to rob and physically harm others existed over 200 years ago when the Constitution was written, as they do today. I can't carry a police officer under my arm 24/7, and it can take minutes before they are able to respond...minutes for someone to end my life with a gun. I am glad my right to protect myself has been protected.

This is a welcome surprise...since only 47% of Americans own any guns, meaning that the 47% are mostly multiple gun owners, many of them, assault weapons.

Another misinformed person trying to make sense of the actions of a crazy man. AUTOMATIC WEAPONS are already banned ...
Seems a failure of family, mental health support and the ignoring of already existing laws requiring weapons be locked up when not in use. But let's all take the lazy, easy way out and call for a gun ban. You people are tge problem. By blaming guns and ignoring the social issues that cause this behavior, you prolong the problem.

Comment #25 by: watcher on 16 Dec 2012, 21:51 UTC reply to this comment

gun control will do nothing to stop people from killing,we need to spank the children when they do something wrong so that they know that there is a result that they will not like when they do something.talking will do nothing, physical punishishment is the only deterent to bad behavior, but of course all you smart people will disagree.

Comment #26 by: bob-NY on 16 Dec 2012, 22:07 UTC reply to this comment

perhaps Mr Murdoc should first learn the definition of automatic weapon...not one of the weapons used where automatics, and automatic weapons are already heavily regulated by Federal and State governments

Answer: When Fox "News"--that is the only source of information for many places in the US--starts educating people that there are a lot of nuts around, and the type of semi-automatic rifle that killed those people, is not appropriate for killing deer or hogs.

Ban all guns and force American subjects to turn them in. Failure to do so would mean 20 yearsin a FEMA labor camp. Only ,Police,Military, and elected officials should be allowed to have a gun.

With over 10 million automobile accidents and 35,000 people a year dying in automobile accidents in the US, have you noticed that nobody is running to the microphones screaming that we need to ban cars. This call to ban guns is a shameless exploitation of the senseless deaths that occur at the hands of sick and evil people. We must not yield to the emotional ploys used by those who have as their sole objective the denial of all Americans their 2nd Amendment right to 'self defense' that our founders understood was essential to personal freedom.

Comment #33.1 by: mys elf on 17 Dec 2012, 19:42 GMT

Have you noticed that cars are registered so you can trace them back to the owner, drivers have to take a test in order to get a license to operate a car, and some health conditions preclude licensing? We could do the same for guns. We don't have to ban them.

I THINK THEY SHOULD BAN VIOLENT GAMES. NO AMOUNT OF GUN CONTROL WILL KEEP GUNS OUT OF DANGEROUS PEOPLE'S HANDS. VIOLENT GAMES ARE MUCH MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE GUNS. THE GAMES INFLUNCE YOUNG AND UNSTABLE PEOPLE.

Comment #39 by: dave on 18 Dec 2012, 00:53 UTC reply to this comment

Never let the goverment take away our right to own guns! Guns don't kill people...people do! If we ever let them take our guns away, only the bad guys will have guns. Yes, we as a country have to stop being so polictically correct. This nation was founded on the beliefs of god and the path we are going on will lead to the fall of this great country.
