Video game developer and publisher Paradox and platform holder Sony announce that Runemaster, the role playing and tactics mix that is currently in development, will be launched on the PlayStation 4 home console with a unique control scheme and other new features.

The official announcement states, “This is the first role-playing game developed entirely by Paradox Development Studio, a group best known for its deep historical strategy games, like Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV. It’s also the first time that a Paradox developed title will be designed with both PCs and a current generation console in mind.”

Paradox Interactive has already said that Magicka 2 will be launched on the PlayStation 4 and the two companies are apparently also working on a number of other projects.

Runemaster aims to explore the deep lore of Northern culture, allowing gamers to choose from six classes and six races and then pledge their allegiance to either Thor or Loki in order to try and prevent or accelerate the coming of the mythical event of Ragnarok.

The world of the title is procedurally generated and each race and class will have specific content, which means that each new playthrough is unique and allow gamers to create their own interesting side narratives.

Gamers will need to move across the six world of Norse lore and will meet a variety of other characters from which they can access quests.

Some of those can be solved via dialog while others require combat, which is turn based and includes both a wide array of units and powerful abilities delivered by the heroes.

Paradox adds, “Norse mythology is at once tragic and comedic. Though it all bends towards an inevitably sad conclusion and the end of times, episodes within the grand narrative of Norse legend have pranks, mistaken identities and trickster figures. Our quests will try to walk that same balance of light-hearted antic colored by deadly rivalries and the recognition that the universe is often unfriendly and unresponsive to mortal demands.”

The developers are saying that Runemaster is a special title and that they are trying to introduce some new things in the experience.

Sony has been trying to expand the range of video games that are being launched on the PlayStation 4, with its studios creating a stream of exclusive titles while third parties offer some innovative experiences.

It’s unclear whether Runemaster will be launched on the PS4 before or after it arrives on the PC.
