Last year, Nokia unveiled to the world its first handsets running under Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, and it promised the availability of exclusive apps for them, to differentiate in a crowded market.

No other Windows Phone handset would have these apps, nor would they be available on rival platforms, Nokia said.

Owners of a Lumia smartphone can already take advantage of such applications, and new ones are being pushed to them, and the handset vendor is now offering an overview of these apps.

In case you missed it, you should know that a beta flavor of Nokia City Lens is now available for download from the Nokia Beta Labs.

Released as a location-based Augmented Reality app, Nokia City Lens was designed to provide users with key information about surroundings.

Through simply pointing the phone’s camera at the street, users will receive info on restaurants, shops, museums and other points of interest. Have a look at the video embedded below to learn more on this.

Another app exclusive to Lumia devices is the ESPN Hub, with glance-and-go Live Scores and a Fantasy Football app specifically designed for the series.

Nokia Transport, which reached version 2.0 beta only recently, is another such application, offering a great public transport guide for those who don’t have a personal car to travel around.

There is also Nokia Drive, with street maps from over 100 countries around the world and with turn-by-turn voice directions provided in over 50 languages.

Nokia Maps is also available on Lumia handsets, with drive, walk or public transport directions, and there is also the Nokia Creative Studio worth mentioning, so that users can easily create panoramic shots on their phones, or to apply filters on their images.

The Nokia Play To application was loaded on Lumia phones to provide users with the possibility to connect them to DNLA-enabled television to view photos, videos, TV shows and more, straight on the large screen.

Additionally, Nokia’s Windows Phones also take advantage of Microsoft’s Office suite, with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote available while on the go. They can also use the Xbox Companion to keep users on top of new content for their consoles.

These applications can be found in the Windows Phone Marketplace, as well as through the Nokia Beta Labs, if they are not in a final flavor yet. Nokia-specific apps are included in the vendor’s own channel in the Marketplace.
