Both Pure and Turtle mentioned there

Redmond-based software company Microsoft was rumored at a certain point during last year to be on its way to deliver to the market two handsets that would be included in a so-called Pink Project it was known to be working on. The said devices, codenamed Pure and Turtle, have just been spotted in the latest Zune software update.

As many of you might already know, the same software update showed a few days ago some references to Zune phones, and now the long rumored Pink phones are also seen in the update. According to the guys over at Engadget, the eEndpointFamily files, which show all compatible hardware, also display entries for “PmxPure” and “PmxTurtle.”

Since PMX is said to be a reference to Microsoft's Premium Mobile eXperiences group, they clearly point towards that Danger group that the software giant acquired not too long ago, and which were already rumored to be working on that Pink Project. Along with rumors on two devices expected to arrive on the market as a result of the work on Pink, some leaked photos with them also emerged, and they can be seen in the first two images attached to this article.

Here's what Engadget notes: “If that's not enough, two PMX table entries pointed to a snippet of text stating that 'Studio members' can 'View and manage pictures and videos taken with your phone at the Studio,' followed by a link that for now redirects to Zune.net. Could the mysterious Project Pink and the oft-rumored 'Zune phone' be one in the same, with some 'Studio' service for uploading media to the cloud?”

No exact details on the matter are yet available, at least not officially. However, most of the latest rumors on Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS suggested that we might see new handsets launched at the upcoming MWC shows in Barcelona, and that the next-gen Windows Mobile 7 would also be on display, with a great deal of Zune features and more. With Microsoft already having scheduled two financial analyst meetings on the mobile platform for February, we can only keep our fingers crossed for the rumors to pan out.
