Video game site Gamespot is quoting unnamed sources inside Microsoft to suggest that the new yet announced but much rumored Xbox 720 home console from the company will be built around a tablet concept.

The source does not offer much information on the tablet or what features it will sport but talks about the desire of the company to unify its major platforms using the upcoming Microsoft Windows 8 operating system as the main reason behind the design decision.

At the CES 2012 show Microsoft has suggested that it will integrate elements of the new Metro interface into the Xbox 360 home console at a point during the future.

Other rumors about the Xbox 720 have suggested that the console will have a completely integrated Kinect motion tracking system and support for 3D.

At the moment Microsoft is still insisting that it will sell the current console for a few years more before announcing a successor.
