A major update for Windows 10 is already planned

Microsoft is very busy these days setting up the long-term plans for its overhauled Windows platform, which, according to various sources, is scheduled to receive several major updates in the next 24 months.

Now, according to some new rumors pushed online by none other than WZor, the Russian leaker who has a good track on early information regarding Microsoft and its products, Windows Redstone, which is believed to be a major update for Windows 10, could launch in October 2016.

But let’s take these rumors one at a time to see how much sense each actually makes.

New update planned for late 2015

The core Windows 10 operating system is scheduled to launch during the next summer, while a first update is likely to see daylight in late 2015, according to reports.

Contrary to Redstone, this one is expected to be released as a regular update that would only bring performance and bug fixes, so Microsoft might keep all the goodies for the next release projected to launch in 2016.

Interestingly, WZor also says that the late-2015 update would bring many more new features than expected because Windows 10 could actually be a little bit rushed, so some functionality might be missing because of Microsoft’s desire to make the new OS ready as fast as possible.

As far as Redstone is concerned, previous information suggested that it could be released in two waves, one in June/July and another one in October. Needless to say, the October 2016 date makes more sense because it would come approximately one year after the first update planned for 2015, as the company is willing to switch to a yearly release cycle for major Windows updates.

Obviously, all these details are still unconfirmed, so just take them with a grain of salt until Microsoft actually shares more information and comments on the post-launch Windows 10 schedule.
