After reality sunk in at the Twitter headquarters and the dust started to settle after former CEO Dick Costolo's departure, everyone's eyes are turning to the Search Committee, a group tasked with finding a new CEO.

This group, led by Peter Currie, former Netscape CFO, and which also includes Evan Williams, Blogger & Twitter founder, and Peter Fenton, General Partner at Benchmark, has not yet given any hints about who they're looking at, but a series of clues left by the company's Board of Directors seem to point a big red blinking arrow at Twitter's current CFO, Anthony Noto.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mr. Noto has been taking up more and more responsibilities at the company, being the man tasked with overseeing the site's marketing strategy. He was also present right there next to ex CEO Dick Costolo when he was explaining the disastrous Q1 results to the Board.

Mr. Noto's history recommends him as an efficient, strong leader

Considered to be Costolo's right hand man all this time, Mr. Noto also has financial expertise, being a former tech banker at Goldman Sachs Group Inc..

From 2008 until 2010, Mr. Noto was the National Football League's CFO and helped the league go through a hard-thought series of negotiations with the player's union. At one point, he was actually the favorite man to take over Roger Goodell's job as the league's commissioner had he stayed with the NFL in the subsequent years.

Along with today's news, which sees Twitter enable autoplay GIFs, videos, and Vines, a feature that would allow the company to open revenue streams from video advertising, you can see a shift in the company's direction towards a domain Mr. Noto, as Chief Financial Officer, is very well prepared to handle. He also seems prepared to steer the company in its upcoming future, which undoubtedly has it aiming for higher profits.
