Should come next year

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has been rumored for quite some time now to be getting ready to add Apple's iPhone to its offering, and now the same suppositions have emerged once again, with a series of new pieces of information. For starters, we should mention that Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam is reportedly paying visits to Mountain View to see how the development of Motorola Droid is going, and he is also rumored to make pit stops at Apple's headquarters to check on a Verizon-branded iPhone.

Since Verizon's iPhone plans are widely known, McAdam's trips would only suggest that things are moving towards a not too far launch of an iPhone on the carrier's airwaves. But not any kind of airwaves, as said upcoming model reportedly features support for the next-generation Long Time Evolution (LTE) networks. And it seems that the device is already in the testing phase, which means that the release date might be closer than expected.

For what it's worth, this is not the first time the LTE-capable iPhone makes the headlines, nor the first time we learn that Verizon might launch it along with its LTE network. Previous rumors, in case you might not remember, pointed towards early 2010 as the launch time frame both for the network and for the handset. Even so, mashable, the site that brought the rumor to light this time, says that, although things seem to connect to each other, one should take the news with a grain of salt.

We should also mention that there are no exact details as to where the rumor came from. However, it wouldn't come as a surprise to learn that these rumors pan out, especially since Verizon has showed that it can deliver more attractive handsets to its users than before. With the Android-based Motorola Droid and an LTE iPhone, the carrier seems set to make an impression. No specific details on the availability of said iPhone emerged, but stay tuned to find out about them as soon as they become available.
