Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just fired up its LTE (Long Term Evolution) network around the United States, offering 4G services to a great deal of customers out there, but it seems that it is not done for this year.

While the official announcement pinned the arrival of the first LTE phones at Verizon for mid-2011, rumors on the possible availability of this device much sooner than that have just emerged.

According to a recent article on MacDailyNews, Verizon would be set to release the said LTE handset right after Christmas. Moreover, the device in question would be none other than the Apple iPhone.

We already stumbled upon various rumors regarding the availability of LTE-capable Apple iPhone on Verizon's network, but none panned out until now, and there are great chances that these speculations would prove false as well.

However, said news site claims that Verizon and Apple have already fired up the machinery, and that the LTE iPhone would be released before the end of the ongoing year.

Of course, nothing is official on the matter, and AT&T is still the exclusive distributor of the iPhone in the United States, but this should change in the next few weeks.

The launch day for this device would coincide with the unveiling date, but nothing would be announced until after Christmas, so that AT&T would benefit from holiday sales.

The LTE iPhone would also include support for Verizon's CDMA network, so as to enable 3G connectivity where 4G is not yet available.

It seems that the device was ready for quite some time. Most probably, if so, it's release was pushed back for the last details to be put in order.

For the time being, we'll take these rumors with a grain of salt. Most of the previous speculations on the matter pointed at an early 2011 release date for the iPhone on Verizon, but only for the CDMA flavor of the device, and not for the LTE variant.
