Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is rumored to plan the upcoming launch of a new handset powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform, one that would boast a 16-megapixel camera on the back.

A recently spotted video ad, which can be seen at the bottom of this article, is the purported proof of that.

Provided that the rumor would pan out, the handset would arrive on shelves with a camera far better than any other on its devices.

Up until now, HTC has released phones with 8-megapixel or lower photo snappers, and the said handset would represent a huge step forward.

In addition to sporting double the pixel count of the highest-resolution handset from HTC, the phone would also come with dual LED flash, and, most probably, with full HD video recording capabilities.

However, this is only a rumor for the time being, and some of the details that can be seen in the ad might be misleading.

For example, the handset in the video looks very much like the Android-powered Desire S, though it does sport the usual Windows Phone 7 buttons.

Some suggest that the actual device might not look like this when available, and that this is only a placeholder for the upcoming phone.

Previous rumors on HTC's roadmap did unveil some forthcoming Windows Phone 7 devices, one of which was codenamed HTC Ignite, and the phone in this ad might be that device.

Except for the camera resolution and the dual-LED flash, no other specifications of the new HTC handset were unveiled.

If the rumor pans out, HTC will become the handset vendor with the highest-resolution smartphone on the market, followed by Altek with the 14-megapixel Altek Leo.

However, other companies also released high-res smartphones, including Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Moreover, the first 3D, dual-cameras smartphones were already unveiled to the world, with the possibility to use them as a single, high-quality snapper.
