A source inside French video game publisher Ubisoft has told Siliconera about a new project that the company is working on, under the temporary title of Project Osborn, built around the idea of a terrorist attack taking place on American soil, with one of the protagonists being a descendant of George Washington himself, named John.

The character is a graduate of the well known West Point military academy and has specialized in the study of guerrilla warfare and was sent to Afghanistan in 2003 with his top secret unit to hunt down the most important operatives of Al Qaeda.

Siliconera says that his own unit was killed by a friendly airstrike and John, now 42 years old, has returned to the United States and has decided to use his knowledge of guerrilla warfare to create independent cells and remake the country as the Founding Father intended.

His organization is called the Minutemen and they use terror tactics to achieve their aims with Osborn, a government group led by a Navy SEAL, given the task to stop them and take out Washington.

The information from inside Ubisoft suggests that players will be able to play both factions and that most of the missions, some of them involving actual terror attacks, take place in the United States.

One described mission is set on the Brooklyn Bridge as Osborn ambushes the Minutemen only to find a proxy bomber who has had his family kidnapped and is forced to carry out an attack.

The government agents fail to deactivate the bomb and the player is prompted to throw the man off the bridge so that the civilians can be saved.

Ubisoft has not offered any comment on the Project Osborn rumors.

The game is set to be released on high definition home consoles, which probably include the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and, presumably, the Nintendo Wii U.
