Information coming from the sale of THQ assets suggests that video game publisher SEGA is currently in pole position to acquire the Relic Entertainment development studio.

Information is coming from reports on NeoGAF that have been confirmed as believable by a number of insiders.

Relic Entertainment is best known for its work on Company of Heroes, a strategy title set during World War II that has revolutionized the real-time genre, and on the Dawn of War series, a title that uses the Warhammer 40,000 universe and introduces role-playing game elements to the tactical franchise.

SEGA already owns The Creative Assembly, which has recently secured the rights to create a Space Hulk video game and also has a lot of expertise in the real-time strategy space.

An official confirmation of the sale might be offered before the end of the day.
