Early last month, NVIDIA launched its highest-performance graphics cards to date, the 55nm-based GTX 285 and GTX 295, coming as a response to AMD's dual-GPU HD 4870 X2. Soon after the release of NVIDIA's latest GeForce cards, speculations emerged on the possibility of an upcoming Radeon graphics card, as a response to its latest offering. On that note, it now appears that the rumor mill keeps on turning and specifications of an alleged Radeon HD 5870 X2 have just been leaked on the Internet.

According to a recent news article on Guru of 3D, a “respectable” Dutch retailer has leaked the details on AMD's Radeon HD5870X2, a card that appears to be a direct response to NVIDIA's dual-GPU GTX 295. The card was soon pulled down from the site, but not before its specifications were grabbed by a user. According to the news article on Guru of 3D, the card is going to be featured with a core clock of 800MHz, and a memory frequency of 4800MHz.

There are no specifications on the amount of graphics memory available, but it appears that this card will also be featuring the GDDR5 standard. It will run on a PCI-Express X16 graphics slot and will be compatible with Microsoft's Direct X 10.1 API, a feature that is available across all of AMD's HD 4000-series graphics cards. In addition, the card boasted 2 DVI connectors and one HDMI, with the maximum resolution being specified at 2560 by 1600 pixels.

The listing of the Radeon HD 5870X2 also included details on its price tag, which was set at a whopping 677 Euros. However, that price tag will likely go down when the card will be released, that is if it is going to be produced in the first place and this wasn't just a practical joke.

The real specs were leaked from a respectable source, not just some retailer who wanted to make money on pre-orders. 900mhz core clock on the single 5870 and 950mhz on the 5870x2. The memory frequency on this site is about all that is correct at 4800mhz total. The memory bus will be 512 bit. The thing that really sets off my BS detector on this is the Direct X 10.1 compatability. ATI had announced since day one that the 5800 series would be Direct X 11 compatable and still stand behind that. The price is pretty reasonable given the supposed power the new card will have.

Check your sources before you believe anything. Even take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, things may change over the next two months.
