A report from Digitimes that mentions the company Pegatron Technology, which is an operational division of Asus, suggests that the company is already working with video game hardware developer Sony to produce the PlayStation 4 home gaming console.

The report also talks about Pegatron being involved in the production of the iPad 3 and 4, the next tablet hardware from Apple, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Pegatron has not offered any comment on the PlayStation 4 information.

Sony has been claiming for the last year that it currently has no plans to launch a new generation of the PlayStation brand, instead working to keep the current version relevant for 10 years, integrating support for motion tracking and three-dimensional gaming.

Nintendo is expected to launch the new Wii U home console later during the year and both Microsoft and Sony are expected to make an official announcement about new hardware at E3 2012.
