Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is already hard at work with the development of its first handsets that would run under Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system, and a few more details on the matter have just leaked into the wild.

Apparently, the leading handset vendor would be working on no less than four Windows Phone 7 devices at this time, which would be targeted at different market segments.

According to a tweet from Eldar Murtazin, Nokia's Research and Development team is already playing around with these devices.

Of course, this does not come too much as a surprise, since the company announced over a month ago that it was adopting Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system for newer smartphones.

However, what's interesting is that, along with these Windows Phone 7 handsets, Nokia is also rumored to be working on the development of a Windows 8-based tablet PC.

“Nokia R&D - 4 Windows Phone 7 and 1 tablet (Win8 presumably). 2 phones used chassis 1, 2 based on chassis 2 - like HTC Ignate (middle end),” the aforementioned tweet reads (via WMPoweruser).

The first two Windows Phone 7 handsets, those based on chassis 1, are expected to arrive on the market with a minimum of hardware that would include 1GHz processor, 8GB of internal memory, and a five-megapixel photo snappers.

As for the last two devices, they would include lower specs, like 800MHz processor, just as the HTC Ignite would.

Basically, the lower specs would make these devices fit for the mid-range segment of the market, which would bring Windows Phone 7 to newer price points.

What remains to be seen is when exactly would these devices become available for purchase.

Some of the previous rumors on the matter suggested that Nokia might not be able to make its first Windows Phone 7 handset available before the end of the year, though the company is certainly struggling to do so.

Nothing was officially confirmed on any of these for the time being, but we'll keep our fingers crossed for Nokia to unveil more details on its Windows Phone plans in the near future.
