Slightly different from the D150

Acer managed to claim the number one spot in the netbook market last year by releasing just one netbook model, the Aspire One. The company's strategy was considerably different from that of its main competitor, ASUS, which released a number of different netbook models, consequently creating some confusion among its customers. However, it now seems like Acer is planning to take the same path, as more details emerge on what will possibly turn out as yet another Aspire One model.

Photos in a recent post on fan-blog macles* show what is probably a new Aspire One netbook, which is somewhat similar to the D150, recently released by the PC vendor, except for some minor design improvements. The new netbook appears to have been featured with a different motherboard, which has enabled the PC vendor to rearrange the available ports, and which also made the overall netbook slimmer, with a height of only 26 millimeters.

As far as technical specifications are concerned, it appears that the new netbook will sport the same hardware configuration as the company's current model. However, according to the above mentioned website, Acer will change the name of the new model to D250, which will also include a change in the HDD configuration.

These are still unconfirmed reports and it might be that the slightly different D250 won't even make it to the market. While we were at CeBIT, last week, there was no indication on the part of the PC vendor that a new model, based on the recent D150, would be emerging in the near future.

In the meantime, we are still waiting for some more details, if not the official release of that NVIDIA Ion-based Hornet that was leaked on the Internet in late February. This nettop would come as a real change to the market, as it combines the processing power of Intel's Atom CPU with one of NVIDIA's GeForce graphics products.
