Although it was initially slated for a May 13 release, it appears that Verizon decided to push back the DROID X2 launch for almost two weeks.

According to the guys over at DroidLife, Verizon postponed the release of Motorola DROID X2 until May 26, with pre-orders starting on May 19.

The reasons behind the carrier's decision are unclear, but it seems to have something to do with the delay of the Samsung DROID Charge.

Even though no official statements have been made regarding the smartphone's hardware specs, rumors suggest that the DROID X2 will have a large 4.3-inch qHD touch screen with a resolution of 960×540 pixels and it will be equipped with a dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.

Furthermore, the DROID X2 is expected to come bundled with a rear-facing 8-megapixel with 720p video capture, 1080p out, as well as 8GB of internal memory and an 8GB pre-installed SD card.

The phone is powered by a high-capacity 1540mAh battery, but no information about the phone's standby and talk time have been revealed yet.

Speaking about the phone's software, the information is a bit vague, as for the moment no official documents have been leaked, but from the phone's picture it appears that the DROID X2 might be indeed delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board.

However, it seems that the information is based on the fact that the DROID X2 features a blue top bar, which is specific to Gingerbread.

Even though the guys over at DroidLife point out that the same blue top bar was spotted on the Motorola Bionic, which was delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, it is unlikely to be the same in this case.

On related news, a full specs-sheet of the DROID X2 spotted by the guys over at Pocketnow shows the phone as running Android 2.2 Froyo.
