As surprising as it may sound Motorola Charm's release date might be moved to August. Set to be shipped this month through T-Mobile operator, Charm is now on standby as rumors say that issues with battery life have been identified. TmoNews puts the news “firmly in the rumor category”, but confirmation is expected pretty soon, either from the operator or manufacturer of the smartphone.

Motorola Charm was supposed to be offered by T-Mobile for free in a Back to School sale. The device strongly resembles RIM's Blackberry devices, but it features a 2.8-inches TFT capacitive touchscreen (262k colors and 320x240 pixels resolution). Its Gorilla Glass display improves screen's durability without adding to the phone's weight.

Gorilla glass is a friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin-sheet glass designed specifically to function as a cover glass for portable display devices. Its superior composition allows a deeper layer of chemical strengthening than is possible with other chemically strengthened glasses, giving it an increased ability to resist and withstand damage. Additionally, it remains strong over time, making accidental scratches and abrasions less visible and less likely to affect the user’s visual experience.

Other key features of the device include: touch sensitive controls; Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate; Proximity sensor for auto turn-off; BACKTRACK touch panel; Multi-touch input method; MOTOBLUR UI v1.5 with Live Widgets; Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic; Social networking integration with live updates; Facebook, MySpace, Twitter apps. The smartphone is powered by Android 2.1 OS (Eclair) and it packs 512 MB internal storage, microSD card slot (up to 32GB), HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, HSUPA 2 Mbps, 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS with with A-GPS support.

The 1170 mAh Li-Ion battery has a stated life autonomy of up to 267 h (up to 334 h on 3G) in standby mode, and up to 6 h 45 min (up to 5 h on 3G) in talk time mode.
