HTC Hero is reportedly the nicest mobile phone launched on the market with Google's Android operating system running on it, and it is expected to soon become available for purchase in the US via wireless carrier Sprint. While rumors about the operator getting the Hero have been cycling around for quite some time, a series of photos that allegedly show the Sprint-bound handset have also emerged.

The most interesting fact about the device is that it seems to come towards the US without the popular Android chin. The new leaked photos, which can be seen on 8080.net, are reportedly showing the HTC Hero200, a device that passed through FCC's hallways not too long ago with CDMA connectivity features. In other words, this should be the handset Sprint's users will get as the Android-based Hero.

One must agree that it seems rather hard to believe that HTC has dropped the chin for the Hero, especially given the fact that all its other Android-powered phones have it, and the same applies to the Hero that went to Europe. Even so, the guys over at 8080.net claim that this is the device in question, and we can only hope that it will prove real in the end.

In the meantime, we should mention that some of the specifications of the Sprint Hero also emerged, and they show that users will enjoy a 528MHz Qualcomm processor, coupled with 288MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper that will come with auto focus. For what it's worth, the capabilities of the device should be the same as those on the original Hero.

Take a look at the set of images below and let us know what you think about this handset. As stated above, we are reluctant to considering this the Sprint Hero, especially since not all images seem to show the same device. Hit this link to view the entire gallery.
