The 10,000 jobs that Sony has announced will be cut before the end of the current calendar year will not affect the video game oriented division of the company, which handles the PlayStation 3 home console, the PSP, the Vita and titles associated with them.

The information comes from magazine Develop, which does not cite an actual source for the information, and it seems that the television, marketing and chemical divisions of Sony will bear the brunt of the cutbacks.

Sony has claimed that it will be eliminating jobs in order to streamline the structure of the company and to emerge in better shape during 2013, when many expect to see it launch a new home console.

Kaz Hirai, the current leader of the electronics giant, has said that the turnaround plan he has for Sony is predicated on the success of its mobile, video game and television divisions and on a better worldwide economic outlook for the coming years.
